Shades of summer

I find my posts are still sporadic...maybe it's my summer schedule that is getting in the way...I'm sorry, anyway, this young lady has her summer shades on..I love painting dark hair in shades of blue and purple..it beats the straight forward sepia or van dyke brown shades...always experimenting and trying to push my palette...

Your experimentation is admirable! The hair doesn't scream out that is is purple, but the color adds to the mood of the piece so beautifully, and the other purples throughout the piece unify it perfectly. I like this idea very much! Well done!

Nice painting! I, too, use purple in dark hair. I particularly like using some QBO with a little purple to warm it up a bit. And some cerulean in the "underpainting" part of doing hair, for highlights. Always enjoy your blog submissions. Isn't technology great for us to all connect through the blogosphere? good to see you back!

Hi Annelein,
The blue is great solution here. It is like air penetrates each hair and reflects in the sunglasses. Very alive painting. Her sunglasses don't cover her soul for sure :0)
Thanks,
Irina
