It'll be a while yet before we see these in yards across town. I haven't

spoken of anything but the weather lately! But today the temps are creeping into the 50's!

Potted Pansies

Now we start seeing little black plastic potting trays full of

multi-colored pansy faces at the garden centers. These little beauties

are tough when it comes to a little frost!

And Vermont is know for a "little" frost all the way into May.

Front 'n Center

Another image of spring...since it is snowing here! The weather just

doesn't seem to want to cooperate with warmer thoughts. Oh well.

I am working on a daffodil painting today, so you see the spring theme

continues. I'm like the farmer's market...paint what is fresh and in season.

Tea-Time

Today the sun is shining and the ice is melting. We had our own private skating rink in our backyard! Tea in the garden sounds like a great idea, but maybe in several weeks... or make that months here in Vermont! Especially since those reliable weatherpeople are predicting snow again for tomorrow!

This rooster just begs to be looked at. He is so proud and isn't afraid to show off a little. I'm in the studio working on new roosters today. Friends are bringing me photos of roosters from their travels to various islands, so inspiration a-plenty!

Sonoma vista

Since spring doesn't seem to want to come to Northern New England, I'm reverting back to last fall. This is a sketch out of my travel watercolor book from last November driving through Sonoma, California. The vistas were beautiful and all the vines were in shades of ochre, burgundy, olive green and burnt sienna. What a natural color palette! I'll post more little sketches from my various journals in the future.

Daffodils

The rain is coming down, tomorrow is the first day of spring and we are supposed to get several inches of snow! How is that for the last (official) day of winter. We should have plenty of water so everything can burst into bloom when the earth wakes up.

Calling spring

I guess spring is on my mind...unfortunately we have a winter storm warning here in Vermont, so it is not yet to be. With Easter around the corner the stores will be full with cut tulips, daffodils and other spring blooms for me to paint! A little consolation.

"Red Amaryllis" 15" x 22"

This painting was done in the studio last year after my amaryllis bulbs had come to full bloom. I cut the stems and put them in a vase and arranged the still life around them. I like that the painting is primarily done in red tones. Sometimes it's fun to challenge yourself with a limited color palette.

This bully of a rooster seems to be standing his ground protecting what is his. I guess we all get that way some time. He still brings a smile to my face. I just sent this painting, along with 13 others, to Applejack Art Partners to be added to my portfolio. Who knows, maybe you'll see him on tiles, fabric or anything else for that matter soon!

Thoughts of spring

After the snow decides to melt and the ground will warm a bit, maybe we'll see tulips again. Until then we'll have to be content with store bought bunches.

Bermuda vista

This typical Bermuda scene with the scooter in front of the pastel buildings takes me back to last year when I had the chance to paint some beautiful places around Bermuda. On a cold Vermont morning this just radiates island warmth.
