Beautiful. Growing up in southwest Iowa, the Cardinal was my favorite winter bird. They are extraordinarily beautiful, as you say, especially highlighted against the snow. Your painting captures them perfectly.
I love cardinals and jays, this painting is very wonderful. I like the way the happy colourful birds in the foreground are symbolically protecting the viewer from the thicket in the background ~ Great subject and beautifully painted!
The evergreen is just perfect! Is it Perylene or did you mix it yourself? (I'm hoping you're not like some of us who have no idea what's gone into a colour...
