Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend...Back to blogging. This was done from a vintage photograph of my grandfather. I had a great time with the "wetness" of the watercolor washes and the very light touch of pigment. Dark doesn't always have to be dark...like his jacket was in the original picture.

I wonder Annelein if the picture that you were painting from was black and white or faded colors. But whatever it was, the painting is living its own life. And I love how you left white highlights on the face, cheek, and hair. Great technique.

I love what you are doing with these soft portraits. I like the comment about the dark not having to be truly dark. It is implied...and very sucessful.
