out of the dark

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend...Back to blogging. This was done from a vintage photograph of my grandfather. I had a great time with the "wetness" of the watercolor washes and the very light touch of pigment. Dark doesn't always have to be dark...like his jacket was in the original picture.

  1. I wonder Annelein if the picture that you were painting from was black and white or faded colors. But whatever it was, the painting is living its own life. And I love how you left white highlights on the face, cheek, and hair. Great technique.
    Thanks,
    Irina

  2. Absolute perfection! I so enjoy all your portraits, even more than the flowers!

  3. I love what you are doing with these soft portraits. I like the comment about the dark not having to be truly dark. It is implied...and very sucessful.
